The web site, "Mobile Africa" started like a dream. The concept behind this web site was born out of the inspiration derived from writing the article: "Mobile Telephony. Which Way for Africa?", written in March 2004.
Several names came to mind for the new web site. Finally, the name "Mobile Africa" was selected for Africa's leading mobile communications technology web site. The name, "Mobile Africa" says it all.

Mobile Africa has evolved from a single article to become a full web site that serves as the gateway to mobile communications in Africa. The concept itself is not new at all, but it is the first of its kind that shares news and information exclusively about mobile telecom in Africa, and is targeted at the people of Africa. The main objective of this web site is to share news and useful information about the world's fastest growing mobile telecom industry, in Africa and also to give the numerous subscribers of the various services a platform to share their views, opinions and network with others. |
The web site has since drawn substantial traffic over the months since its debut on the 31st of July 2004. In June 2005, the total number of unique visitors exceeded 15,600 for that month alone!

Mobile Africa has received mention in the print media and has served as a reference point for white papers, blogs, research and even other news web sites. Content from Mobile Africa is syndicated on leading world news web sites including Google News, Syndic 8, NewsNow, amongst many others. Content is also distributed automatically via RSS feeds. Thus the news and article headlines can be viewed via My MSN, My Yahoo, Bloglines, BlogAfrica and any other news aggregating software.
Services on the web site has increased to cover sales of SMS, Ring tones, screensavers, interactive tools like discussion forum, chatroom, opinion poll.
The Future
We intend to improve on our success and reach out to even more people, via other mass media.
In a nutshell, this journey has just began.
