Mobile Communications Technology in Ghana

Overview
GhanaGhana has 5,209,398 subscribers (about 20% penetration) and four cellular networks viz Areeba, Tigo, Onetouch and Kasapa. Ghana is home to the first cellular network in sub-Saharan Africa (Millicom launched an analogue cellular network in 1992).

With a strong mobile market, Ghana has great potential for further growth in mobile service provision due to the country’s poor fixed-line infrastructure. SMS messages sent in Ghana are said to have grown from 22,000 to over 130,000 in recent years.
