MTN Nigeria Ahead In Market Share, Says Akanmu

MTN Nigeria Communications Limited has announced that it is far ahead in market share of the telecommunication sector in Nigeria. According to Mr. Olu Akanmu, General Manager, Consumer marketing who disclosed at the first press conference on the MTN Y’ello family game show in Lagos, the company has provided telephone service to 64 per cent of the Nigerian population. While admitting that the figure is unofficial, he stated that “there is no network that comes near us, 64 per cent of Nigerians are covered by MTN network.

Akanmu said the statistics were based on the area of coverage by the organisation and reports got from consumer who have testified to fact that MTN reception appeared on their handset as well as information garnered from the company’s engineers.
On the other hand, the GM said aside the telecommunication services rendered by MTN, the company was also focused on providing an enabling environment for Nigerians to have a sense of belonging.
In the same vein, Mrs. Funmi Omogbenigun, Head, Corporate Communication, MTN said: “At MTN, our key anchor as a brand has been enabling relationships amongst friends, families and business associates. Beyond our core business of providing telecommunications services, the theme of enabling relationships even straddles our product offerings, promotion and sponsorship activities.
“In MTN, milestones are celebrated with its subscribers and by extension, the Nigeria family as the focus. The MTN family game show is unique in a number of ways. It is the first game show of its kind in Nigeria and is consistent with key MTN core values of relationship, innovation, leadership and can do.”
Omogbenigun said the company had demonstrated in many ways the importance of keeping the family happy and united. Through the family game show, especially, MTN has brought a lot of excitement, fun and humour to homes across the country with the aim of helping people to appreciate, love and contribute collectively to building a happy and united Nigeria, she said.
Mr. Faluyi Taiwo Ayodeji, a Lagos-based electrical engineer turned part time teacher at the MTN Y’ello family game show became a proud winner of a brand new car courtesy MTN Communications.
Other prizes won at the occasion included DVD players, blenders, recharge cards and T-shirts.
The MTN game show is a contest of two families from different parts of the country, with the thrust of celebrating and consolidating on family values, while at the sametime providing fun, excitement and entertainment.
