MIC Tanzania Ltd (Mobitel) challenged the competition with an aggressive network expansion in 2005. Buzz services are offered nationwide, even in highly remote areas. The company now lead its premium brand into 2006 with an overwhelming additional expansion and extensive upgrade, costing no less than $70 Million.

Mobitel Tanzania

Buzz will definitely excel in the New Year, adds his Chief Technical Officer Tobby Jack. He is confident the future is extremely promising for Mobitel and its prime brand. "The company is spending over $70 million, taking the capacity of its network to no less than 1,500,000 subscribers, within the next eight months. Hence we are already offering the new number range with the prefix 0717 -XXXXXX. The existing customers on 0741 will of course continue to exist at this time. " .

Upgrade

The expansion involves a roll out of 300 new cell sites, a new IN-prepaid platform, a new post paid billing system and a new soft switch. "Yes, currently we are working very hard to upgrade the system", continues the Chief Technical Officer. "Subscribers may have notices the some changes already. The system - obviously - becomes unstable at times, but after the upgrade the system is highly stable and of excellent quality."

Greater and vast road coverage and General Manager, Soban Pasha explains why this huge investment is needed. "We are expanding and upgrading, not for necessity sake, but for excellence! We intend to offer the highest quality service at the very best lowest cost possible to our subscribers. That asks for dramatic investments in quality and expansion in 2006."

Internet on Mobile

Due to future trends in technology and innovation Mobitel also intends to launch GPRS (General Packet Radio Switching) early 2006. GPRS will enable subscribers to surf on the internet with their mobile phone, for instance. "However that is not all" adds the Chief Technical Officer Tobby Jack. "There is a range of other services, such as picture messages, e-mail access from the phone and so on, that can and will be offered as well. Also the new highly sophisticated 'IN platform' will enhance our services dramatically." Tanzania. Tanzania.

Undeterred determination

With undeterred determination and focus Mobitel and its brand Buzz continues to prosper in the Telecom market while offering its services at the best value possible, says the General Manager. He makes it very obvious that the management team takes enormous pride in making mobile services accessible, affordable, user friendly and above all, a necessity to all its current and future subscribers.

Soban Pasha concludes: "We represent eleven years of quality service to our subscribers and more of absolute excellence, assertiveness and persistent willpower and will continue to represent this proudly in the twelfth year to come."
