Celtel Uganda To Upgrade Network To GPRS Soon

Ugandan subsidiary of the pan-African Celtel cellular network would soon upgrade its network, to enable it offer mobile Internet, using GPRS technology.

The new Managing Director of Celtel Uganda disclosed this amongst other things, in an interview with Fredrick Masiga, a correspondent of The Monitor, Kampala.

In his own words:

"We are in a technology driven industry so it is about innovation. We will soon be coming up with new GPRS technology, which should take Celtel customer's experiences to another level.

We are also looking towards making our products more affordable and flexible that is why we have offered our customers airtime in Shs2,000 denomination scratch cards to make the product a lot more accessible.

We are also looking at financing and boosting how we distribute what we have. We had our switch upgraded a year ago and in addition expanded and continue to expand our coverage both in Uganda and across the African continent."

Celtel Uganda currently has over 300,000 subscribers, and looks forward to being the market leader.
