Millicom Officially Launches 'Internet Access On Tigo' [GPRS]

Millicom Ghana Limited has from Monday April 3, 2006 begin to offer its subscribers the opportunity to access the Internet, check their Email and do many other interesting things on their mobile phones. It is our desire to make the process of granting our subscribers’ internet access an almost effortless experience.

Following the steps below would help tigo subscribers to get online with their mobile phones. The information is from Millicom Ghana and is targetted at their subscribers on the tigo network. Step 1 Subscribers will receive a message from tigo [asking them to perform a function] to help accept tigo internet access settings on their phones. The content of the broadcast will be: Kindly send SMS to 777 for tigo internet access on your phone. The format must be “wap phone name phone model”. e.g. wap sonyericsson k750

After receiving and accepting the configuration settings, after 24 hours, turn off your phone, and then on again immediately to activate your settings. Most phones will be granted internet access after performing this function.

Alternatively, go to the myWAP >> link to request your handset configuration registration.

However, some phones will still fail due to reasons beyond the control of tigo.

Some reasons for failure

• Non-internet access compatible phones
• Network phones [e.g. T-Mobile, Vodafon, Orange, MTN, Glo, etc.] with codes that prevent tigo’s ‘Over the Air’ [OTA] technology to penetrate.
• Refusal to accept settings received on your phone
• Refusal to turn your phone off and on after accepting settings etc.

Step 2
Visit any of our offices in Accra, Kumasi, Tamale and Takoradi personally and have your access granted. Remember to carry your phone and SIM along.

Pricing for Internet access on tigo:

• Configuration [initial set-up] is FREE
• Internet access on tigo will be charged on a ‘volume download’ basis
• 100 kilobytes will cost ¢ 920 [with no hidden costs]
• Contents [ring tones, wall papers, games, etc.] purchased is charged differently from your normal browsing costs
• Idle time is not charged etc.
