MTels GPRS Service Commended By Stakeholders

The General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) capabilities of the Nigerian Mobile Telecommunications Limited (Mtel) recently unveiled has continued to attract positive comments from the appreciative members of the public.
This aggregate view was expressed at the two-day e – NNOVATE expo recently concluded at the Muson Centre, Lagos where Mtel showcased its Mobile Internet and Mobile Office as part of its GPRS products to be launched pretty soon.
Minister of Communications, Chief Cornelius Adebayo was among the dignitaries who witnessed the public presentation of the GPRS technology of Mtel. He expressed delight that Mtel was part of the historic leap of Nigeria to the digital age that the country is headed.
Director of Regulatory Matters, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Mallam Ibrahim Ado who represented his Executive Vice Chairman, Engineer Ernest Ndukwe also commended Mtel for the GPRS capabilities on its network.
Guests at the technology expo were taken through the awesome possibilities of Mobile Internet via the mobile phone and the Mobile Office option via the laptop and PCMIA facility with the Mtel SIM card.
The acting Chief Executive Officer of Mtel, Mr. Edwin Moore Momife said that the talk about mobile phones using the GSM technology has gone beyond the voice communication.
According to him, in the new competitive environment, the struggle for market niche among operators is not about the quality of the talk or price, but the value added services. He stressed that the impeding competition is about who offers the best Value Added Services.
Momife noted that in the evolving virtual office, mobile phone owners want to be able to use their phones to play games, transfer files, surf the Net or check their bank balances. He noted as well that in the industrialized nations of the world, mobile phones are often used to obtain results of football games, watch video streams or download ring tones as well as music files.
Mtel's Mobile Internet, which enables instant connection to the Internet, requires a GPRS enabled telephone handset and a GPRS enabled SIM. With these facilities, a subscriber would be able to connect to the email portal on the Internet.
In the same circumstance, the experience on Mtel's Mobile Office is awesome. With a laptop, PCMIA card and Mtel SIM, the opportunity too explore the cyberspace is limitless. This product offers the user the freedom to go to wherever for as long as Mtel GSM coverage extends to the location.
