Moroccan 3G (UMTS) Licences Get 4 Bidders

Moroccan telecommunications regulator ANRT has opened four bids for up to three UMTS licences it plans to award.
Following the call for tender for 3rd generation licences the Moroccan regulator, the ANRT, has announced that six companies had asked for the documentation and four have submitted a formal proposal.
Licence winners will pay MAD 360 million plus a contribution to reorganise the spectrum. The bidders are Itissalat Al-Maghrib (Maroc Telecom), Maroc Connect, Medi Telecom (a joint venture between Telefonica and Portugal Telecom), and Nejma Telecom Maroc (a subsidiary of Koweit-based Wataniya International). Two companies which requested bidding documents pulled out. They are UAE's Etisalat and India's Reliance Infocom.
The ANRT will grant a maximum of three licences. Each licencee will be asked to pay 360 millions dirhams (US$42 millions) and to provide a contribution in the spectrum reorganisation. No specific time frame was given to evaluate the bids, which will be judged on infrastructure, coverage, service quality, service diveristy and general coherence.
