Mobinil Offers Voice SMS, The First Service Of Its Kind In Egypt

The Egyptian Company for Mobile Services (Mobinil) has just launched a new service allowing Mobinil users to send Voice SMS messages to any mobile phone in Egypt, expanding on its previous text and multimedia messaging services.
Voice SMS enables users to send pre-recorded messages to a recipient, thus bypassing language barriers and awkward typing limitations that are occasionally encountered while typing out SMS messages. The more personal touch afforded by having the senders voice speak the message is also one of the new service’s major benefits.
Mobinil’s Star, Primo and Business users can send Voice SMS messages for 30 piasters each, while the cost for Alo prepaid users is 50 piasters each. Sending a message is simple, and all the user needs to do is press the star symbol on their number pad (*) followed by the number which they want to send the message to. After hearing a tone, the sender then records a thirty second message and ends the phone call to automatically send the message.
Upon receiving the Voice SMS, the recipient presses *0* to listen to any newly received Voice SMS messages for free. Previously received messages can be reviewed by dialing *1*, and are billed at standard mobile phone to mobile phone rates.
It is important to note that Voice SMS is a new service offered for the first time in Egypt, and is separate from Voicemail, a service Mobinil has had available since 1998. Voice SMS enables a sender to transmit an audio message to a recipient, as opposed to Voicemail allowing a caller to leave a message if the person he is trying to reach is unavailable.
