Glo Mobile Wins West Africa's Telecom Company Award

The Institute of Direct Marketing of Nigeria (IDMN) has named Globacom West Africa's Most Preferred Telecommunications Company of Year 2006.
The company was presented with the award at the West African Direct Marketing Awards 2006 held at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja Lagos, by the Institute of Direct Marketing of Nigeria. The award was organized in conjunction with the Direct Marketing Association of Nigeria and the Confederation of African Direct Marketing Association.
IDMN said the annual award was to reward excellence and merit. "Deserving individuals and corporate organizations are selected based on merit," it noted, adding that organizations that are either based in West Africa or international organisations whose services and products are present in West African market were assessed.
Chairman of the Awards Board, Col. Timothy Aiyedehin, said Globacom's robust achievements in the last three years of its operation qualified it for the award.
He said Globacom's unique and strong marketing initiatives and its world class products and services have stood the company out in the industry. The company, the institute noted, has played revolutionary roles in the telecom industry and recorded a series of outstanding achievements since it began operations in 2003.
Globacom's Zonal Sales Coordinator, David Maji, who received the award on behalf of the company said Globacom had, since launch, played a lead role in jump-starting the country's economic and social success by ensuring that Nigerians were availed the best in telecommunications and information technology.
The IDMN award is one of several such awards and recognitions Globacom has won in its three years of operation. Its unique products, aggressive marketing initiatives and social responsibility thrust have attracted to the company acclaim and laurels, the latest of which is the rating as best GSM operator by a network audit done by IT Edge, a leading IT/Telecom news magazine.
The International Telephone Union (ITU), an agency of the United Nations, had in its report on African Telecommunication Indicators noted that the entry of Globacom into Nigeria's telecom industry had brought "greater innovation, lower tariffs and better services."
