Globacom's website has been adjudged the best in a rating of websites of telecommunications companies in Nigeria. The rating entitled Top Telecommunications Websites in Nigeria was done by a telecom monthly, MobileWorld and published in its current edition, Issue 4.
Globacom scored 5.01 to place first. It was followed by Celtel which had 4.7 points. Multilinks website was ranked third with 4.1 points followed by MTN and mts1st both of which scored 3.9 points. Mtel came fifth with 3.6 points, while Starcomms followed with 3.1.
Publishers of Mobileworld said the websites of the companies were assessed on the following criteria: Information (relevance and helpfulness of information content), Ease of use or user ability (are the users able to find information easily or do they just get frustrated and leave the site? Are the navigational links appropriately placed?), and Interactivity (how interactive, how dynamic the site is).
The other criteria are Originality (is the design original and authentic and specific to the owners of the site?), Update Frequency (how frequently the site is updated), Online shopping (does the site have online shopping capabilities, Online payment (are customers able to pay phone bills or top up their phones directly from the site) and Web ranking (is the site popular? How does it compare with international counterparts?).
The rest are Aesthetics which sought to know how aesthetically appealing the site is and Customer support which assessed the kind of support customers got from the site. Globacom which has won several awards since launch was recently rated the best GSM operator in the country by an audit of mobile telephone service providers in Nigeria. A summary of Network Audit for Lagos State in June published in August-September 2006 edition of IT Edge, a leading IT/Telecom news magazine, showed that Glo Mobile emerged tops in the performance indices of the research carried out by IT Edge Intelligence Unit and Next Technology. It was also recently declared West Africa's Most Preferred Telecommunications Company by the Institute of Direct Marketing of Nigeria.
