Celtel Nigeria Set To Revolutionise Mobile Internet With 3G/HSDPA

Celtel Nigeria, along with its partners key partners - Ericsson Nigeria Limited and Huawei Technologies Nigeria - recently announced that they have finished conducting the first third generation mobile technology (3G) and High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) trial launch in Nigeria.
According to Nigerian daily, Vanguard:
The trial launch according to Celtel was done in Abuja at a ceremony attended by National Assembly members especially Communications Committees chairmen and members in the Senate and House of Representatives.
Others who witnessed the testing of the technology, included officials from the Federal Ministry of Communications, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigerian Investment Promotion Council, Nigerian Consumer Protection Council and the Media, among others.
The testing of the technology, Celtel said, clears the way for the country to join the league of nations with access to higher mobile technology and all its numerous benefits.
According to Tunji Alabi, head of Celtel's new techno-logy team, early consumer interest indicates that mobile TV and video services will play a critical role in driving 3G take-up and usage. With HSDPA technology, 3G services subscribers will be able to watch their favourite movies, sports and even live broadcast of TV programmes among others on their mobile phones.
The trial launch by Celtel Nigeria makes it the first 3G/HSDPA cellular network in the entire West African sub-region.
