Celtel Nigeria today made a strong statement on its intentions for the Nigerian telecommunications market, when it launched its FLAT “Unity Tariffs”, a tariff plan which eliminates price discrimination across networks by providing the same rates across all networks.

Celtel NigeriaThe FLAT “Unity Tariffs” will reduce prices to as low as 33K per second, and come in three different plans:

  • The “Simply Special” plan targeting the Youth and average consumers
  • The “Simply Smooth” plan targeting professionals and heavy users
  • The “Simply Smart” plan for SMEs and ultra heavy users.

Announcing the new tariff package in Lagos at a world media briefing, the CEO of Celtel Nigeria, Mr. Bayo Ligali, stated that “from today, Celtel customers can call for the same low rate of 33k/sec to all networks. We are One Nigeria, and it’s important our subscribers do not experience price discrimination based on which networks they call to”.

He noted that telecommunications has become a uniting factor in the lives of Nigerians and stated that the new FLAT tariff package would further this reality.

Mr. Ligali continued by saying, “The FLAT tariff plans are the first ever in Nigeria, and are innovatively designed to deliver on our promise of making life better. Today, the Nigerian consumer has to choose from a multitude of pricing plans on other networks. Our new FLAT tariffs eliminate this complexity, by offering customers affordability, simplicity, and greater transparency when choosing plans”.

Mr. Ligali also announced new international call rates, which lowers prices by 45% and reduces calling costs to as low as 55K per second for popular destinations like UK, US, UAE, amongst others.

He stated, “We have made our international rates more affordable for not just popular overseas destinations like the UK and US, but also for popular African destinations such as South Africa, Ghana, Togo, Cameroon, and Benin. Part of the way we make life better, is by ensuring our subscribers enjoy the benefit of Celtel’s presence in over 14 African countries”.

He also disclosed that the network has introduced very low rates for late night calls, a friends and family program with even lower call rates, as well as 15 free SMS per month.

Ligali declared Celtel has executed its transformation plan, adding that “since our successful re-branding, we have made significant investments in network coverage and capacity expansion, and are now our offering Nigerians the most innovative and affordable tariff package.”

In closing, he stated that “we are, therefore, confident in the coverage, capacity and quality standards of our network to carry through our new customer- oriented initiatives”.
