Vodacom Tanzania today launched the first of its 3G HSDPA products –the 3G HSDPA Data Card which offers broadband speed on the move. Vodacom will make this product available on both post-paid and prepaid packages through its Vodashops in Dar es Salaam.

Vodacom Tanzania“Our 3G HSDPA launch has created much anticipation among consumers and the media and I’m very proud of our team, because they made it possible for us to bring it to market as promised,” said Romeo Kumalo, Vodacom Tanzania’s Managing Director.

“This launch places us in a very strong position and sets us apart, as we are only the second country in Africa to launch a 3G HSDPA network. It is the fastest, wireless mobile connection to the Internet, for your office network and email from your computer,” he added.

The first product to be launched is the 3G Data Card, which slots into a laptop and connects via Vodacom’s high-speed 3G HSDPA network. The Vodacom Data Card takes advantage of Vodacom’s 3G HSDPA network, offering superior speeds. 3G HSDPA is available in Dar es Salaam only. When you move out of 3G coverage, you stay connected by seamlessly switching to Vodacom’s high-quality GPRS network, available across the country.

The Data Card enables customers to browse the Internet, send and receive SMS, chat using their existing instant messaging service, access business applications such as Internet based e-mail accounts and connect to their company’s network using their company’s existing VPN solution - all from the convenience of their laptop anywhere at anytime.

For computers and laptops without a PC-card slot, Vodacom offers a 3G USB Modem which you simply plug in and connect.

3G HSDPA (Third Generation High Speed Downlink Data Packet Access) is a technology that delivers superior speed with the added benefit of mobility. The 3G HSDPA technology can be installed onto the GSM network backbone to provide 'data' connectivity via a mobile device.

“3G HSDPA technology is an important step forward for Vodacom, as the telecommunications industry enters a new era in mobile communications. We are rapidly and dramatically changing the way our customers experience their wireless communications as we continue to shape the future of mobile and broadband connectivity,” Kumalo said.

“The result will be more value-added services at affordable rates, setting us apart, making us more competitive. But in the end, and as it should be, it is the customer who will benefit most,” he added.
