The Minister for Infrastructure Development Hon. Andrew Chenge gave Vodacom Tanzania much praise for successfully installing a 3G HSDPA network in Tanzania.

Vodacom TanzaniaVodacom Tanzania hosted Hon. Chenge and its corporate clients as it unveiled the full bouquet of its 3G HSDPA products; namely Video Calling, Picture Messaging and Mobile Internet services – during its corporate launch at a cocktail party at the Movenpick Hotel in Dar es Salaam.

A couple of weeks ago Vodacom launched the first of its 3G HSDPA products - the 3G HSDPA Data Card.

“The Data Card has been very well received by the market. The response has been simply amazing and has shown that contrary to conventional belief there is a huge interest in 3G services in Tanzania,” Romeo Kumalo, Managing Director, Vodacom Tanzania told the guests.

“This kind of response is the reason why we were adamant on investing in a 3G HSDPA network. As always, Vodacom wants to go the extra mile. We wanted to be able to provide our customers with the most advanced technology available in the telecommunications industry – hence 3G HSDPA,” he added.

For the first time in Tanzania, customers can now see the person to whom they are talking to – in real time! Vodacom’s 3G HSDPA network enables customers to make and receive video calls which are exclusive only to Vodacom subscribers.

“We are definitely making mobile communication much more fun and exciting! And if that’s not enough excitement, customers can now also send and receive longer text messages and they can brighten them up with colorful pictures, sound and animation with Vodacom MMS,” said Kumalo.

In essence, Vodacom is introducing visuals, sound and motion into its messaging services. Not only will this service be available from mobile to mobile, but mobile to PC as well. It will be possible for subscribers to send MMS (Multimedia Message Service) to any email address.

Mobile Internet or WAP will provide customers with speedy internet access on their laptops, PCs, mobile phones or any other hand held device. The activation of these services is very simple and is available to all Vodacom customers.

These services will not only keep Vodacom customers informed and entertained, but will enable them to increase productivity and work more efficiently from any location at any time. Mobility with superior speeds is what Vodacom is offering.

The guest of honor, Hon. Chenge commended Vodacom for installing a 3G HSDPA network in Tanzania and said it heralds a new era in communication.

“I would like to congratulate Vodacom Tanzania under the able leadership of Mr. Kumalo for firmly placing Tanzania on the continent when it comes to telecommunications in Africa. To be the second country in Africa to operate a 3G HSDPA network is no small feat and Vodacom deserves an accolade for pioneering the technology in sub-Saharan Africa,” he said.

Hon. Chenge said Video calling, MMS and high-speed Mobile Internet will dramatically change the way people work and communicate.

“3G will not only increase productivity in the corporate world, but it will also bridge the distance between Tanzania and the rest of the world,” Hon. Chenge commented.

“Voice and data communication across Tanzania will now be seamless and super-fast. There is a great need for services such as speedy mobile internet; not only in the urban areas, but in the rural areas as well,” he added.

Kumalo said that, competition in the mobile market is heating up and Vodacom Tanzania does not plan on slowing down.

“We will continue to work hard to ensure that we keep Tanzania at the forefront of communication in Africa. We are committed to keeping you ahead by providing you with the latest technologies, and products and services, along with reliable and superior network quality,” he elaborated.

Before the end of the evening, he encouraged all the guests to explore and experience the difference with Vodacom’s 3G HSDPA network and its various services.

During the launch, all the guests got to experience first-hand Vodacom’s 3G HSDPA mobile Internet, video calling and MMS as they were treated to live demonstrations.

“We wanted to allow our guests to experience the difference with our super fast mobile Internet and video calling as well as provide them with a better understanding of 3G HSDPA technology and its benefits,” said Kumalo.

“For those of you who have not yet activated the services, I would urge you to do so and experience the difference,” he told his guests.
