MTN Uganda has recently introduced a new mobile payphone. The MTN payPhone is a new easy to use PayPhone kit that includes a Motorola C113, an MTN user manual in three languages and a branded apron and hat for the attendant.

MTN UgandaSpeaking on behalf of MTN Public Access, Thomas Leth Madsen said the MTN PayPhone is an innovation developed between MTN, the GSMA Development Fund and SharedPhone, the software providers.

“MTN PayPhone is aimed at increasing access to affordable communication for the general public by giving the payphone operators more mobility as they provide services,” Madsen explained.

In addition to accessing basic voice services, customers can send airtime via the Me2U service through the Payphone attendants. Customers can also have their SMS messages sent using the PayPhone.

MTN payPhone attendants on the other hand are able to reload airtime with standard MTN airtime cards. Madsen explained that in order to keep track of their sales, the Mobile pay phone has an in-built mechanism that provides a total of the daily sales which allows the operator to easily calculate the profit made off each call and manage their business.

MTN PayPhone is therefore ideal for mobile phone dealerships and provides profitable entrepreneurship opportunities for individuals. The PayPhone comes as a complete business package that costs only 99,500 UG Shs.

“We are very excited about the MTN PayPhone; it is evidence of the continuous metamorphosis in the telecoms industry for the benefit of the customer. It is certainly going to revolutionize the payphone market’ Madsen said.

The MTN PayPhone is a deliberate strategy by MTN to provide basic and affordable communication services for the public.

*The GSMA Development Fund’s intent is to improve the uptake of initiatives that use GSM technology for social, economic and environmental development and support successful initiatives aimed at providing mobile communications to all.
