Michael Foley Now Celtel’s Chief Commercial Officer

Celtel Nigeria has announced the appointment of Mr. Michael Foley as Chief Commercial Officer. He replaces Mr. Chuma Okoye, who has been appointed Group Marketing Director (Sales and Distribution) at Celtel International Amsterdam.

Celtel NigeriaFoley brings to Celtel an extensive and impressive experience at corporate executive level including a broad spectrum commercial knowledge of telecom and internet business in several continents of the world.

The new Chief Commercial Officer joined Celtel from Emirates International Telecom in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, where he was the Group Chief Commercial Officer.

He has worked previously in several telecoms networks in such countries as India, Romania, Bulgaria, the UAE, Tunisia, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

A French Canadian, Foley was previously an Executive Director and Chief Commercial Officer of MobilTel AD (M-Tel Bulgaria, the country’s leading operator) from March 2004 to July 2005 where he had overall responsibility for Sales, Retail, Marketing, Service Development, Data Services and Customer Care.

He was also formerly Vice-President (Marketing) at Connex, Romanian leading Mobile Operator and the Canadian Chief Executive Officer of @Home Networks, a Broadband Internet Services company. He has also served on the Board of Excite Canada.

Mr. Foley began his career with Procter and Gamble Inc. before moving into telecom industry with New Brunswick Telephone and Bell Canada, the country’s largest communications network and provider of local, long distance, wireless telephone, internet, and satellite services.

In December 2006, he was named by Actualites, the leading French Canadian magazine, as one of the top 30 French Canadians making a difference in the world.

A graduate of Brebeuf College and McGill University in Montreal, Canada, he is a highly respected consultant and speaker on Telecom-related issues. A keen music lover, he is also actively involved in charity work.
