South Africa's fourth mobile operator Virgin Mobile may increase its tariffs if other mobile phone operators in the country decide to do so, its chief executive (CEO) said on Tuesday.
Peter Boyd, CEO of Virgin Mobile South Africa, said the company would follow suit if other mobile companies were forced to increase costs because of rising inflation.
"We will look at the industry and follow, but try and retain that differential (value)," Boyd said at a media briefing on the operator's second birthday.
South Africa's biggest mobile phone operator Vodacom, jointly owned by the nation's largest fixed-line operator Telkom TKGJ.J and Britain's Vodafone, said earlier this month it was considering raising tariffs, but had no firm plan yet.
Virgin Mobile, which launched in South Africa in June 2006, is a joint venture by Britain's Virgin Group [VA.UL] and South Africa's third-largest mobile operator Cell C.
