Mtel, has announced plans to hit the two million subscriber-mark early next quarter and re-launch its analogue mobile lines.

Announcing this to a crowded pre-event press conference that heralded its "Orange Train" campaign in Abuja on Thursday, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Edwin Moore Momife, said in addition to hitting the target of two million subscribers next quarter, the company was also providing for an additional 1.5 million lines. Said Momife: "Our objective is to have two million active subscribers by the beginning of the third quarter of the year. We are adding an additional capacity for 1.5 million lines." The chief executive, beating his chest over the new management orientation in the company, spoke gloriously of the company's initiatives to strengthen Mtel and ensure it is competitive in the medium and long term. "We are looking to complete four transmission projects that will enhance our network capacity," he said, adding: "We have built network transmission capacity to expand capacity in Lagos, Enugu, Abuja and Kaduna." He said the company was working on the re-launch of its analogue mobile (090) lines, which he said was the first in the country, adding that about 40,000 lines would be re-activated, thus enabling the company to recoup about N6 billion, which he said customers were owing on the analogue lines. The Abuja event, "Orange Train", is the code name for Mtel's brand reactivation project and campaign, which is a nation-wide road show with an initial tour of four cities, namely Abuja, Lagos, Enugu and Kano.
