Plans are far advanced for Mtel to launch 14 base stations in the coal city, Enugu.
Chief executive officer of Mtel, Mr. Edwin Moore Momife, announced this at a press briefing ushering in the orange train into the Coal City, saying that the additional base stations would be launched in a few weeks time.
He said that the base stations would enhance network services in the northeastern part of the Enugu State for a total and effective coverage of the state. Momife therefore urged Mtel subscribers to brace up for good things to come, describing the Orange Train as one of the boldest event platform ever put together by any firm in Nigeria.
"This is deliberate (because) beyond selling our products, it is a sign of glad tidings from Mtel. We have embraced change. We have embraced progress," he said.
According to him, Mtel has shed its weakling toga and is now poised to take its rightful place and operate without a stiff neck, adding "as events unfold in the next couple of months, the whole world will see a brand new Mtel competing favourably with any GSM operator in Nigeria."
Describing Enugu as "a key centre of Mtel operations" the CEO said that the GSM operator rolled its Orange Train into the Coal City in order to appreciate its numerous subscribers through the fun and excitement of the Orange Train.
He also informed Mtel subscribers of the various products now available to them on the network, including GPRS services for international roaming, credit sharing, power talk and business talk.
"Consumers in Enugu should know also that Mtel now offers desired benefits in better network quality, the best tariff and value for money pricing, an increased product range and absolute empathy for the Nigerian consumer," he said.
The Mtel boss stated that the GSM operator was projecting to increase its subscriber base to two million by the end of the year and add capacity for another 1.5 million other lines while its revenue target for the year was expected to double the 2004 figure of N15.5 billion.
MTel is the mobile communications subsidiary of the state-owned NITEL.
