Mtel Nigeria Builds 15 Super High Towers

Nigeria's Mobile Telecommunications Limited (Mtel) has commenced building 15 super high towers in different parts of the country to boost its coverage and increase subscriber base.

Minister of Communications Chef Cornelius Adebayo who spoke on the activities of the telecom firms saidthe M-tel 15 super high towers being built by M-tel in different parts of the country were among other on-going projects by the company including five hops transmission link between Bauchi and Gombe and other 32 hops across the country as well as repeater stations all of which would raise 63 base transceiver stations(BTS).

Adebayo said M-tel has substantially completed work on its 1.2 lines expansion project contracted to Ericcson, Motorola and ZTE in 2003.

"In the last one year, in order to have an enhanced total access communication systems network, M-tel has performed a major rehabilitation of the systems and installed parts at its main switch centres across the country. The organisation has had improved call delivery as a result of the full integration of all 11 mobile switching centers," the Minister stressed.

Mtel is the mobile communications subsidiary of the state-owned NITEL.
