As part of its commitment to providing world-class telecommunication experience for Nigerians, MTN has opened its General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and the Multimedia Message Service (MMS) platforms to its entire subscriber base.
To this effect, MTN Nigeria would soon be unveiling a new line of communications materials comprising television commercials, radio scripts, press and outdoor materials on the latest product package. The company has also concluded plans for embarking on a massive educational campaign to demonstrate how GPRS/MMS work, as well as enlighten consumers on how to configure their phones for GPRS/MMS usage.
GPRS/MMS enables customers to send and receive MMS messages and browse the Internet directly from their mobile phones, and it is available to both prepaid customers and post-paid subscribers on the MTN network.
According to MTN’s Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer, Afam Edozie, “GPRS is primarily a way of accessing data more securely and gives subscribers the advantage of accessing allocations and databases anywhere, even while on the move”. He explained that “Multi Media Messaging is similar to SMS, only better in the sense that it allows and enables the user to send and receive pictures, sound video clips, and animations alongside text”.
The new package, according to Edozie, provides an enhanced platform for sharing life’s exciting moments for the MTN subscribers. “With an MTN line, subscribers can do so much more to nurture and enhance those relationships that are important to them, especially now that they can send and receive pictures, sound, video clips, animations alongside text on their phones.” He said, “whether it is the announcement of a new birth or finalizing a business transaction or just to tell someone “ I’m thinking of you”, MTN GPRS/MMS will enable subscribers stay in touch and build meaningful relationship via a host of extra-mobile services, including video clips of special events to families, friends and colleagues, which he added is in line with MTN’s theme campaign “Life is Beautiful.”
He noted that the Nigerian telecom sector has grown to a level where such factors as timely provision of accelerated communications solutions would play a more significant role in service delivery.
Since inception, MTN has provided an unrivalled bouquet of products and services that include MTN Business TIME, MTN Pay As You Go, MTN Flexi and MTN BoosterCard. There is also an array of value added services that include Enhanced Data and Fax, Short Message Service (SMS), International Roaming, Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), Voicemail Services, MTN Funtones, MTN Directory Enquiries, MTN Business Directory, MTN Graphix, MTN Logo, MTN Downloads, Recharge a Contract and Virtual Booster among others.
